The English Dake Rule

There is something about moderately-and-above-English-proficient Japanese that drives them to insist on speaking English to you no matter how much you try to also prove your moderate-and-above Japanese proficiency by replying in Japanese. Their enthusiasm will make any English teacher in Japan proud, since they will have no problem instituting the English Dake Rule, whose counterpart failed miserably in our summer program.
